ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day

24-70mm @ 40mm    f8 @ 1/4000s    ISO 100

Today is ANZAC Day in Australia. It is a national day of rememberance in Australia and New Zealand, originally commemorated by both countries on 25 April every year to honour the members of the Australian & New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) who fought at Gallipoli in the Ottoman Empire during World War I. It now more broadly commemorates all those who served and died in military operations for their countries.

There are many memorials throughout Australia, some like this one at Ramornie near Grafton, with long lists of the fallen inscribed on their surface. Many bearing the same surname. A dawn service of rememberance is held at many on this one day of the year.   “At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.”
