The View from Home Last Night

August, time for the cow cockies (cattle farmers for the non Aussies) to light up the bush burning off the undergrowth so at the first wetting of spring rains the new grass will flourish for their cattle. Never mind that we get high winds every August which spread the fires totally out of control! And pollution! as a world we are trying to bring down our pollution and this is still allowed in Australia. An attitude of “well we’ve always done it and we need the new grass come spring” I’ve been burnt out twice in 12 years, the acreage not the house, and hate this irresponsible attitude. I’m also terrified of fire.
