The common name of this unusual looking flower is ‘mountain devil’ and it is found throughout the Blue Mountains.
Banksia of the May Gibbs story Snugglepot and Cuddlepie a wonderful truely Australian story for children. These days I’m sure it would have been band because of the violence in it from the ‘banksia men’!
Snowgum bark when it is wet displays the most intense colours, mainly red, yellow through to intense lime green. This particular tree started a project for the week of capturing the lines and colours of different snowgums’ bark.
The trees up around the border between New South Wales and Queensland are very different to the ones I had on my property. Still Eucalypts but a soft dusty pink bark and underneath a green and beige trunk. Very beautiful. Taken at Millmerran yesterday.
One of our most beautiful gum trees, the scribbly gum has lots of scribbles like this on its trunk. They are made by small beetles burrowing under the bark and when the bark falls off it looks like someone scribbled with a pencil on the tree.
