While the tide was out we crossed on the sandflats of Wild Cattle Creek to the other side and the long wild beach to the south of Tannum Sands.
Just a heads up that I’ll be transferring this Blog to a new site by the end of April. Beyond Purgatory is no longer relevant as a title for my Blog as I no longer live on Purgatory Creek. I will give plenty of notice as to the new site because I enjoy your company and would hate to loose anyone in the transfer.

Further up the east coast of Queensland is Gladstone and out on the coast is Tannum Sands a beautiful holiday place with all those expected things in Australia – long sandy beaches, creeks and mudflats, good coffee shops and midges! I notice the midges as they really affect me with itchy bites that last a week at least.

Theodolite Creek, Woodgate Beach is very photogenic at sunrise. There are the sand flats at low tide with tendrils of the creek winding their way to the ocean, the small sand dunes, dead trees stranded in the sandy shallows and of course the sun appearing over the horizon. And every day is different because the clouds are different.

With all the rain we had last week, Purgatory Creek was flowing freely and creating all sorts of lovely little waterfalls and splashes and eddies for me to photograph.

The hibiscus flower from yesterday’s post ended up being photographed in the small crystal clear shore break in front of my burre. It took me many, many images to get close to what I was trying for but now I’ve studied them more I need to go back and try again 🙂 It might be a few years before I do but I’ve got a better idea of how it will work. Lots of the better shots below to show you what I was trying to get before the hibiscus flower became too damaged. This idea was sparked by a cover image Marie Kova created for the TEDX talks in Fiji this year and one of our group on the Fiji Road Trip – see previous posts.
